To remove an admin from your Facebook Page, switch into the Page, open Settings, then Page setup, then Page access, click the options button next to the person and choose Remove access. If the person also has full control, they may have to approve the removal first; Meta says a request nobody acts on within 30 days may be approved automatically. If your Page sits in a business portfolio, you remove people in Meta Business Suite instead. Below are the steps for each case, and what to do when the button is simply not there.
The quick way, on a computer
These steps work for a Page you manage directly on Facebook:
- Log in to Facebook and click your profile photo in the top right.
- Click See all profiles and choose the Page.
- Click the Page's profile picture in the top right to go to the Page.
- Click Settings & privacy, then Settings.
- Click Page setup, then Page access.
- Next to the person you want to remove, click the options button, then Remove access.
Facebook e-mails the person to tell them their Page access was removed. There is no way to do it quietly, so if the parting was not friendly, have the conversation first.
On your phone
In the Facebook app the path is almost the same. Tap the menu, tap Pages, choose your Page and tap Switch. Then open the menu again, tap Settings and privacy, then Settings, then Page setup, then Page access. Find the person, tap the options next to their name and choose Remove access. If the app shows the screens in a different order, the Page access screen is always the place to look for.
If your Page is in a business portfolio
Once a Page has been added to a business portfolio (the older name is Business Manager), access is managed in Meta Business Suite, and there are three different buttons. Pick the one that matches what you want:
| What you want | Where to click | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Take one person off this Page only | Settings, Pages, choose the Page, People, Manage next to the person, Remove access | They lose the Page, its insights and its tools, but keep anything else you gave them |
| Remove a person from the business entirely | Settings, People, their name, Remove | They lose the portfolio and every Page, Instagram account and ad account in it |
| Stop working with an agency | Settings, Partners, Options, Remove from business portfolio | The partner business loses the assets you shared with it |
For a former employee, the middle row is usually the right one. Removing them from one Page and forgetting the ad account leaves a door open.
"They have to approve it?"
This is what the searches for removing an admin "without approval" are about. Meta's help page puts it plainly: if you want to remove another admin, they may need to approve your request before they can be removed, and if the request is not actioned within 30 days, it may be approved automatically.
So you can remove a co-admin who will not cooperate. It just may take up to a month. Inside a business portfolio there is a similar safety step: if another person with full control has to approve a removal, they find it under Requests in Meta Business Suite's Settings.
When the Remove button is not there
You do not have full control
Only someone with full control of the Page can add or remove people. If you have partial access or task access, ask whoever has full control to make the change, or to give you full control first.
The Page belongs to another business
If an old agency or a former partner added your Page to their business portfolio, they control access, not you. With full Facebook access to the Page, you can ask them to let go of it: on the Page access screen, look under Business Account access and click Request release. You will only see this when a business owns your Page.
The admin is a former employee who controls your portfolio
Say the person who set everything up years ago has left, and they still hold full control. First try to reach them and ask. If that fails, Meta accepts a request for full control when, among other cases, the person with full control is a former employee or contractor with no ownership rights. You need three documents: an ID, a document that proves you own the business (a business license, articles of incorporation or a utility bill, for example) and a signed attestation letter. You send them through Business Support Home by starting a chat and choosing Business Manager admin dispute. Note that if Meta approves it, you get full control, but the existing people are not removed for you. You still do that yourself afterwards.
You are trying to remove yourself
Facebook will not let a Page run without a boss. A Page must keep at least one person with full control; if nobody has it anymore, the Page is deactivated and scheduled for deletion. Hand full control to someone else before you leave.
You do not recognize the admin at all
A name you have never seen on your Page access list is not a cleanup job, it is a security problem. Follow our first-hour plan for a hacked Page before anything else.
A short checklist for the day you remove someone
- Check whether they had access to the ad account too, and remove it there as well.
- Look at scheduled posts and running ads they created, and decide what stays.
- Make sure two people you trust have full control afterwards, so one lost phone does not lock the business out. Our guide to the Meta business portfolio explains who should hold which key.
- If the same person helps on Instagram, take that access back too. It is the reverse of the routes in how to add someone to your Instagram business account.
When the cleanup shows a bigger mess
Removing an old admin often reveals that the Page never had a proper owner: no portfolio, an Instagram account linked to nobody, ads paid from a former employee's card. If that is your situation, our Business Manager Setup puts it in order on one 45-minute video call, for $99. You end up with a portfolio in your own name, your Page and Instagram account in it, and an ad account with your card. We are added as a partner, and you can remove us with the same buttons as anyone else. If your access list is the only thing that needed fixing, the steps above are enough. Details are with our one-time services.
